Baltic Sea Underground Innovation Network BSUIN Steering committee meeting in Oulu (3)4.-5.12.2019

The BSUIN steering committee and benchmarking meeting brought project partners and associative organisations to Oulu in the just before the Finnish Independence day. The meeting took place at the University of Oulu. Before the meeting, the participants had a chance to visit the Callio Lab facilities in the Pyhäsalmi Mine, Pyhäjärvi (3.12.), and to have a guided tour around Oulu Mining School research centre (4.12.) at the Linnanmaa University Campus in Oulu.

The steering committee was greeted by Charis-Ariadni Loupasi, the Project Officer for the Interreg Baltic Sea Region MA/JS. The greetings were positive, and the project progress had been, from their perspective, successful.  As the consortium has representatives from many academic and research organisations, and the reporting is practised in a well structured scientific matter, for the evaluators and general public, this is sometimes a challenge. This was and still is a good reminder for all scientists and researcher alike working in publicly funded projects to use down-to-earth language in disseminating the project´s goals and outcomes.

Other greetings were delivered by Hanna Honkamäkilä, the Manager of International Affairs at the Council of Oulu Region. The BSUIN project is the first Interreg BSR project at the University of Oulu and thus of great interest.

Doctor Henrika Pihlajaniemi from the Oulu School of Architecture gave the participants an enlighting presentation about the intelligent lighting pilot environment and the study developed as spin-of of the BSUIN project. The research concentrates on how the intelligent and adaptive lighting in underground working conditions affects the worker´s welfare. The pilot has been constructed at the shift managers office at the Pyhäsalmi mine.
