4th BSUIN project meeting held in Karelia
Three-day BSUIN meeting was held in Pedrozavodsk, Ruskeala and Sortavala between 17th and 19th of June. Mister Pavel Petrov of Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences (KaRC RAS) welcomed BSUIN community to the Steering Group Committee Meeting their premises in Pedrozavodsk.
Second day of the gathering was devoted to work package meetings. Overall, work packages were found to be in well in progress. Future product of the BSUIN, the European Underground Laboratories association (EUL) and its forming and articles were discussed in depth. Piipun Piha in Sortavala hosted us with cozy accommodation and scrumptious Russian cuisine.
On Wednesday BSUINists, as we jokingly call us now, were treated with marvelous excursion in Ruskeala Mining Park. In Ruskeala participants were taken both above and underground for guided tours.
The Road Show was followed by “Challenges of underground space use” conference organized by KaRC RAS. The conference joined by BSUIN members dealt for example with legal and safety matters of reusing former mines for touristic or educational purposes.
Next BSUIN will be held in Oulu in December 2019.
