Polish and Finnish joint operation on background radiation characterization in Pyhäsalmi Mine
The staff of University of Oulu, University of Jyväskylä, University of Silesia Katowice, and the National Center for Nuclear Research from Poland worked for ten days in July in Pyhäsalmi to standardize measuring of background radiation in underground laboratories.
Measurements were taken on radon, neutron and gamma radiation. Previous literature lacks details for measurement settings and surroundings.
These characterizations, that took place in Pyhäjärvi Mine, will enable replicability in future studies in all BSUIN mines and elsewhere.
